Far too often, college students face misconduct charges without having adequate due process.
Universities have established kangaroo courts that sidestep any reasonable legal guarantees such as:

The right to receive notice of the charges against you

The right to be represented by an attorney
Thankfully, organizations like FIRE are here to help. But a legislative solution is needed.
In 2021, there was an attempt to pass HB 145 in order to protect college students. However, the bill died in the Senate Education Committee because the leadership failed to take action on this bill.
